Burgh Island Hotel is an iconic Devon landmark, a shining white ocean liner, moored on its own tidal island, surrounded by golden beaches and silver seas.
Built in 1929, extended in 1932 and, since 2006, completely restored to its '30s glamour, the Burgh Island Hotel is a retreat like none other.
The beauty and intrigue of an island visit has always drawn guests who are looking for something different. It is no surprise that Agatha Christie, Noel Coward and other pre-War luminaries made Burgh Island their second home.
In 2011, Southernhay House Hotel in Exeter opened. As a sister hotel to Burgh Island, Southernhay House shares the same values and elegance in a city centre location, just one hour away from Burgh.
Southernhay House began as a mission to return a classic Grade II Georgian townhouse into a place where people meet, entertain and enjoy themselves. Within a short time, and using independent, local contractors, the project has been realised.
They offer the best they can find, in food, team-work, service and atmosphere, in the hope that you will enjoy being their guest. They have researched and tuned into the personality of the House to bring you closer to the gregarious and glamorous Georgians, with a touch of repressed Victoriana, a fizz of Colonialism and lashings of modern comfort.
With just 10 bedrooms, a night at Southernhay is a personal experience, like having your own club in town. The Bar, Restaurant and Private Dining Room are simply the former grand salons of the original house and so are elegant and intimate in style, with limited covers and friendly, unhurried service.
