Helicopter Flight Instructors Course

The Helicopter Flight Instructor course will allow you to teach students to obtain their Private Pilot’s licence. An FI (H) rating will help further your flying career and develop your skills, opening up an extremely rewarding aspect of the industry.

Our course is constructed to take a minimum of 28 days, normally five to six weeks. The first week of the course consists mainly of ground school with a revision of the ground subjects necessary for you to teach the students as well as all the teaching and learning elements of the course. Over 125 hours is dedicated to this with a large emphasis is the teaching of airmanship, safety and threat and error management so you can instill these principles in your future students from a very early stage.

The later stages of the course consist of the flying where you will learn first to fly from the left seat where you will be taught the elements of communication as well as the basic skills necessary.

For some becoming a flight instructor is not their final ambition however it is a perfect way of building hours quickly as well as honing your basic skills and is the perfect stepping stone to any future career goals and then finally, once you have had all the fun of flying the larger machine in your charter role, always something to fall back on as a semi retirement job.

Phoenix Helicopter Academy at Goodwood is a great place to learn to fly. Relaxed, yet totally professional. The instructors go out of their way to ensure you get the best training. Highly recommended!

We both had a fantastic flight and thoroughly enjoyed it.  It was a lovely clear day which helped make the views over West Sussex stunning.
Having a flight in a helicopter is something I have wanted to do for years, it was great to enjoy such an experience.

Kim and David Edwards (Pleasure Flight)

I really enjoyed my training with Phoenix Helicopters (even with the stresses of a tight budget and timescale!), and having now passed my PPL I will definitely be continuing my training and self-fly hire there.

Thank you all at Phoenix, SO much! I think it's finally sinking in for Matt exactly what went on yesterday. His maiden chopper flight was wonderful and he had a great day. Such a smooth flight. Really can't thank you enough for making the day so special

Phoenix for me is now more than just a school to learn how to fly, it has a very homely feel to it, where students and the staff have become a family.
