Phoenix Helicopter Academy – PPL (H) Ground School Course
Having problems with your ground school? Books simply not making sense? Take the strain off with our professional ground school tuition.
With the launch of our new building at Blackbushe and the expansion of our facilities at Goodwood we now have the opportunity and space to offer professional ground school tailored to your needs and life style. Flying is not just about your ability to control the machine but also the knowledge you receive to make you a better and safer pilot. This helps in your decision-making and not only improves your ability but also makes the whole flying experience more comfortable and enjoyable.
Phoenix's highly recommended ground school programme is run by our dedicated ground school instructor, who has experience teaching all PPL (H) subjects, and also instruction towards the ATPL (H) exams.
This has become even more important as under the EASA regime it is a legal requirement for all candidates applying for a PPL (H) to have undertaken and logged a minimum of 100 hours of ground school training. This will accompany the 9 ground exams that should be completed prior to your license skills test.
Subjects we cover are:
• Air Law
• Aircraft General Knowledge
• Flight Performance and Planning
• Human Performance and Limitations
• Operational Procedures
• Principles of Flight
During the course of your PPL (H) flight training at Phoenix Helicopter Academy, you will have accrued a minimum of 45 hours of ground school for free. However an additional 55 hours in the classroom is required to pass the 9 multiple choice examinations.
Phoenix now offers a modular ground school course at our new facility at Blackbushe Airport, Camberley, or at our branch at Goodwood Aerodrome, Chichester.
The Ground School Courses are normally a full day course per subject, taught on a one-to-one basis. At the end of the day, the student will have the option as to whether or not they want to take the exam there and then, or wait for another day. For some of the smaller subjects, or for students that already have a knowledge of the subject, it may be possible to cover two subjects in the one day. Half day courses and courses at an hourly rate are also available for students that just want a quick brush up on a particular area.
You don't have to be a Phoenix student to undertake our ground school courses, and we have already had several students from outside the school complete their exams with us!
For more information ask your instructor, or contact ground school instructor Sam directly on firstname.lastname@example.org, or simply call either of the branches, where the operations team will be happy to help!
Heres is the List of Dates for January 2017, to book a date please contact

Phoenix for me is now more than just a school to learn how to fly, it has a very homely feel to it, where students and the staff have become a family.
A very enjoyable flight. A birthday present for myself and friend and trial first flight. Hoping to do the flight down The Thames next year for our 40th and 60th birthdays!
Easy to find with excellent parking. All staff, including Toby, our pilot, were very approachable and happy to chat. Great atmosphere. A thoroughly enjoyable experience all round.

Thank you all at Phoenix, SO much! I think it's finally sinking in for Matt exactly what went on yesterday. His maiden chopper flight was wonderful and he had a great day. Such a smooth flight. Really can't thank you enough for making the day so special
Thank you for a fantastic experience. It was very well organised and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
Kim and David Edwards (Pleasure Flight)
We both had a fantastic flight and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a lovely clear day which helped make the views over West Sussex stunning.
Having a flight in a helicopter is something I have wanted to do for years, it was great to enjoy such an experience.
Sean Larsen (Student)
I really enjoyed my training with Phoenix Helicopters (even with the stresses of a tight budget and timescale!), and having now passed my PPL I will definitely be continuing my training and self-fly hire there.

Phoenix Helicopter Academy at Goodwood is a great place to learn to fly. Relaxed, yet totally professional. The instructors go out of their way to ensure you get the best training. Highly recommended!

Just a short note to express our thanks to all at Phoenix Blackbush, for a truly enjoyable experience. Our special thanks go to Simon Halfpenny not only for his cheerful sense of humour but also for his skill as a pilot, over the last 25 years I have flown with many pilots most being military or EX.& I can say that Simon ranks amongst the best that I have had the pleasure to fly with.
