Congratulations to William Thorne for completing the helicopter private pilot’s licence. William has been training towards the PPL licence at the Blackbushe branch under instruction from Captain Ian Smith. Well done William, keep up the great flying.
William has been flying with Phoenix on the weekends as a hobby and has now qualified as a private pilot. The standard PPL course includes 45 hours flight training as a minimum however William took advantage of some of the Phoenix fly-in trips last year and visited Le Touquet, France and South Wales during his training. The additional trips give valuable experience, flying under instruction over the English Channel on the France trip and flying in the mountainous countryside of South Wales.
William can now take the experience of the PPL course as well as the additional international trips with him in his future flying. The Private Licence enables William to hire and Captain a Helicopter anywhere in Europe. The left hand-side of the picture below shows William being presented with his certificate just after passing the PPL skills test. The skills test was the last hurdle in the course and required William to demonstrate a variety of skills to prove his capability as a pilot. On the right hand side is William flying his first solo flight only a matter of months ago. Well done William, keep up the great flying!
