The Helicopter Private Pilot’s Licence, or PPL (H), entitles an individual to fly a helicopter for their personal use. This can be purely for fun or for a practical solution to get you from A to B. Many PPL students go on to hire helicopters from us when they fly purely for fun, some go onto purchasing their own aircraft or advance through their training to a commercial piloting level.
PRIVATE PILOT LICENCE
The commercial pilot’s course is designed for pilots that have already completed their PPL and required constructive hour building and who have all their CPL or ATPL Theory Exams completed. The course is 30 hours day and 5 hours night for those who have not obtained a night rating.
COMMERCIAL PILOT LICENCE
Once you have passed your PPL you may then add different aircraft types onto your licence. The required training for these types generally is five hours flight training, one written in house multiple choice exam followed by a flight test with a CAA examiner.
Flying is not just about your ability to control the machine but also the knowledge you receive to make you a better and safer pilot. This helps in your decision-making and not only improves your ability but also makes the whole flying experience more comfortable and enjoyable.

For many, the lure of learning to fly overseas is a simple one; choose the right location and you can learn in wall-to-wall sunshine, often completing your training quicker and saving time and money. But if you learn to fly in the USA, for instance, and want to come and work in the UK or Europe as a whole, you’ll need to convert your FAA licence into a European one. Sounds easy, right?
